Proposal Argument

Gun control is an age old debate that his revitilazed with recent school shootings at Northern Illinois University. Students are coming into their schools with guns to kill everyone. Lawmakers are looking for a solution to this. Should America allow guns on campuses, so students can protect themselves?

Guns should just be banned. Leave the old way of checking a person's background for only criminal records or problems. Ban guns from being accessible to any citizens with the exception to goverment staff like the police.

If guns were banned it would be harder for killers to get possession of one. With guns being difficult to possess school shootings and the likliness of it happening decreases. People may still be able to get guns from the black market, but the likliness of killers being able to get one is lower compared to the faulty system of checking a person's background when purchasing a gun.

Stock issue 1: Is there really a problem here that needs to be solved?
School shootings is a collasal problem. With the life of children and teenagers, society's future, at stake we need to do whatever we can to protect them.

Stock issue 2: Will the proposed solution really solve this problem?
The banning of guns will limit many killers from getting their hands on a gun. There is still the aspect of them going to the black market to get guns, but the probability of them doing that is lower then the current background check system.

Stock issue 3: Can the problem be solved more simply without disturbing the status quo?
No the problem can not be solved without disturbing the status quo because it would require change throughout the country. Gun shops would have to close down and new laws would need to pass.

Stock issue 4: Is the proposed solution really pracical? Does it stand a chance of actually being enacted?
It is feasible because America has passed huge laws with banning before like the Prohibition Act. It has a high chance of being enacted just like when the Prohibition Act was in effect.

Stock issue 5: What will be the unforseen positive and negative consequences of the proposal?
The positive effects will be lower crime and death rates because robbers would not have a gun to threaten people. The negative effects is the closing of gun shops with people being out of jobs. People will also look more into the black market for their gun needs.
